Rebecca Bigelow is a first-year PhD student with the Beef Cattle Institute in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. She graduated from Texas A&M University in 2021 with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences then earned her M.S. in Animal Science from West Texas A&M University in 2023. Rebecca started her PhD program in Pathobiology under the guidance of Dr. Brad White and Dr. Phillip Lancaster.

Rebecca’s research focuses on management practices at calf ranches and feedlots that are associated with the prevalence of liver abscesses in beef-on-dairy calves at slaughter. Her other research interests include the reduction of stress at time of weaning of bottle-fed calves and assessing mortalities in beef-on-dairy and Holstein calves at calf ranches and in the grower phase through necropsying. She hopes to work in the research department of a calf ranch, feeding corporation, or pharmaceutical company upon completion of her PhD.
