Jim Dorris joined the National Safety Council (NSC) in 2021 as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. He currently serves as Chief Strategy Officer (CSO), responsible for guiding the development and execution of the organization's overall strategy. In this capacity, he collaborates closely with the CEO, executive leadership team, and board of directors to steer the organization's long-term vision and growth.

Before joining the NSC, Jim was a Corporate Vice President at United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), where he brought over two decades of leadership and industry experience. He managed all aspects of compliance and sustainability and played a pivotal role in defining and executing the company's business strategy as part of the senior leadership team. Highly involved in innovation and operational excellence, Jim served as the chief architect of United Academy®. Under his guidance, his team spearheaded one of United Rentals' most successful new business launches. United Academy rapidly became an industry leader and one of North America's largest safety training and related technology enterprises.

Prior to United Rentals, Mr. Dorris held a corporate director role at Cummins, Inc. (NYSE: CMI), overseeing the development and execution of the global strategy for safety excellence and providing extensive leadership support to the business. Earlier in his career, he held various leadership positions in compliance, finance, and related fields at Pfizer, Inc. (NYSE: PFE) and PepsiCo, Inc. (NASDAQ: PEP).

Jim earned his Masters of Business degree, Summa Cum Laude, from the U of M Fogelman College of Business and Economics, as well as Masters of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees from Murray State University. He maintains an active interest in Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and technology issues, frequently speaking on safety, sustainability, workforce development, and emerging technologies.
